CODE OF CONDUCT

.

PARENTS and PLAYERS

Youth sports programs play an important role in promoting the physical, social and emotional development of children. It is therefore essential for parents and coaches to encourage youth athletes to embrace the values of good sportsmanship, fair play, skill development, and mutual respect among all players, coaches, officials and spectators.. The Code of Conduct is designed to ensure that all players have a positive and safe experience while while participating in basketball activities for the Illinois Blue Devils.

   PARENTS

  • Parents are expected to read and support the Illinois Blue Devils Code of Conduct Policy.
  • Parents are expected to pay all program fees during registration unless they have agreed to an installment payment plan.  Players will not be able to participate in games with their team until they are registered and paid in full.
  • Parents are expected to get their player to practices and games on time, ready to play both mentally and physically. If a player is going to miss a practice or game, the parent must notify the coach ahead of time so that the coach can plan accordingly. Failure to do so may result in loss of playing time.
  • Parents or spectators will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or parent such as booing and taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures.
  • No Coaching from the Sidelines. Do not offer specific instructions to your child or other players from the sidelines. There are many reasons NOT to coach from the sidelines. The players hate it, it is distracting, confusing, and may directly conflict with the coach’s instructions.
  • Parents will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and well-being of athletes.
  • Remember that we are a team.  No player will be treated better than the others.

   PLAYERS

  • Be a team player. It’s a team game, let's treat it that way.
  • Show respect to all coaches, game officials, parents, teammates and opposing players at all times, and will never act in a manner that is disrespectful to them or your team.
  • Help to clean the gymnasium/bench area were we practice and play games.
  • Display good sportsmanship and a commitment to all teams at all times.
  • Shake hands with the other team and officials after games.
